November News

Congratulations to Kian and Natalie who received recognition awards for showing excellent cooperation with others!

We will begin our Home Reading program this week. Students will bring home folders with books at their reading level. Please have your child return their book every 2-3 days and get a new one. Please help your child track the time they spend reading for our Reading Across Canada program. For every 200 minutes they read, they will colour a province and receive yellow slips. The goal is to gradually move across Canada, province by province, from East to West. Once accomplished, students will receive an award and a prize! We will track this on a map in our classroom. Your child should fill in the reading log as well. Happy Reading!

In Literacy, we have begun our reading workshop rotation whereby I meet with guided reading groups while the other students work at centres or jobs which include a variety of language activities. In writing, students will continue working through the writing process to complete their "Spooky Narratives" this week. We have been editing for "spicy" writing which includes lots of adjectives, and of course for proper sentence structure. Next week, we will begin letter writing and write letters to Canadian soldiers for Remembrance Day.

In Math, we are finishing up our Data Management unit this week. Students have been collecting, organizing, and analyzing data in bar graphs, pictographs, circle graphs and venn diagrams. We will be having our unit test on Friday. Our patterning unit will follow.

In Social Studies, we are learning about Ontario! Students will be posing and answering questions about living and working in the different regions of Ontario.

I look forward to seeing parents again at Parent / Teacher conferences during the week of November 10th.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hale
