EQAO

Grade 3 students everywhere in Ontario will take part in province wide testing called EQAO which stands for the Education Quality Accountability Office.  The grade 3’s at Admiral will be writing this test each day starting Wednesday, May 24th and completing on Wednesday, May 31st. Please do your best to ensure that appointments are not booked before 1:00 pm  on these days. If your child misses a day due to illness they will catch up on June 1st and 2nd.
There are 6 sections in total: four in language and two in math. Students will be writing one section a day, either during the first block (8:55 - 10:35) or the middle block (11:15 - 12:55). We will begin right after the bell, so  please ensure your child arrives on time. Each section takes approximately 100 minutes to finish. More time will be allowed for those who are not finished. The rest of the day we will be partaking in other activities such as outdoor phys-ed games, drama, and art… keeping it light after all that thinking!!!
The part the students look forward to the most is that they are allowed to chew sugar free gum during the test (so exciting for eight and nine year olds!).  You may send your child with a pack of gum on these days, and I will keep extra packs here too. Also, please pack a water bottle for them to keep on their desks during testing.
I have been preparing the class for the upcoming testing in various ways which are incorporated into their everyday learning. There is no doubt in my mind that they will approach this test with confidence … and no this mark is not reflected in their final report cards!
If you have any questions regarding EQAO testing please feel free to email me.
Thank-you!
